    As the current bill seems to acknowledge, banning guns out there now would be really hard to enforce and would play into right wing paranoia.  Banning assault weapon / ammo manufacture and sale (maybe even resale) seems like the place to start.  But we want to do something to cut down on the arsenal out there now, so let's have some financial incentive for people to give up assault weapons - a federal buyback program.  Since it's less coercive, there would be much less whining about freedoms and stuff.  It would cost a bit more, but the political price would be much lower.

    I hope we continue to frame this issue as being about "assault weapons" and not "gun control", as the latter term plays into NRA propaganda about the evil government coming for everyone's hunting rifles.
