Find a graphic picture of one of the murdered children, blow it up in huge posters, add the text "Brought to you by the NRA", and take it to the next NRA gathering.

    Works for abortion protestors.

      •  Do you know ... (0+ / 0-)

what "A Modest Proposal" refers to?

Or should I have included the <satire> tag?

        •  I'm not stupid, nor am I dense (0+ / 0-)

...I don't find a lot of satire funny. In the vernacular of my generation, the modest proposal doesn't seem that swift.

You should know that yesterday someone who posted dead baby photos to make a point rec'd a warning. Take my hr and shove it if you wish, but it remains.

          •  Satire isn't necessarily funny. (0+ / 0-)

            Certainly mine wasn't.

I was just trying to conjure the image of anti-gun protests like what we see for anti-abortion ones and how the typical "free speech" argument the right-wingers use would be turned around.

Sorry the point was lost on you, but I thought that someone who is here as long as you would have gotten that. Oh well, I've survived the occasional HR before.

Virgin Ben Shapiro had this to say to those of us who expressed our anger over 20 dead kids:

To which our own Malacandra replied:

My own response to Shapiro was less measured and quite a bit more profane than Malacandra's, I'm afraid.

      We're better than that.

I wouldn't object to a poster with a list of names and ages.  A big poster.  With every gun death, including suicides, in the past 12 months, the past 5 years, the past 10 years, whatever.

Like the Vietnam Wall.  And with the same hope that someday we can stop adding names.

          •  Small, large, symbols are good (0+ / 0-)

Remember, it's not just these kids, although this is a tragedy that tears the heart like few others.

It's also the ten year-old girl who was shot on her front porch in the inner city.  The endless parade of teenage boys  and young men.  The women who met the ultimate abuse at the end of a gun.  The other schools, the other malls, the spa, the church, the temple.  The mistaken identity.  The accidental shooting.  The self-inflicted final wound.  The robbery gone bad.  All these tragedies that ruin so many more lives than the ones that are taken.  That scar communities.

The military community uses boots, rifles and helmets to symbolize the young men and women who won't come home from wars fought for all the wrong reasons.  Or crosses.  Or a wall full of names.  There's a tree full of stars in Chicago right now -- 500 of them -- each with the name of a person who has died this year at the muzzle of a gun.  500 -- and we're not done with 2012 yet.

These symbols should be smacking us in the face like the follow up to the WTC -- lights in the sky, ribbons, candles, cards, teddy bears, parades of coffins... whatever it takes to make people wake up to the fact that there's a war going on in America -- and We The People are LOSING.

I think you would delete this yourself when you figured out how far you missed the mark.
