  •  Thanks Mel. I have been here a long time, lurking (13+ / 0-)

and with a "number" and I think this is the worst I remember it.
Always pie fights and general burn out until "f u" , "No f U" is the level of discourse, so you laugh a little and walk away.
This time, I have watched the "graphic descriptive misinformed opinions presented as gospel" rec'd and defended until it's beyond name-calling, happen over and over; anyone offering any contrary information, factual or commenting on tone, is castigated and belittled.
Kossacks who speak out against that behavior are similarly treated.  Donuts bouncing.
I am accustomed to the hard core arguments that emerge over these issues, but this level of non factual backed with ad-hom is disheartening.

It's why Dkos attracts a certain mix of people, and we may not all agree on lots, but there's an intensity and a modicum of civility that make people feel at home.
    That got all chewed up.

There were several ttfn diaries this morning, formal and otherwise and I know if I feel like walking away from the GOS, other folks do too.
Some know they need a respite; some feel they are no longer suited for this place.
And I know there is a segment that says -good, go the f away- we don't need ya'.
And I get that, because like any relationship, people and communities change; I always felt the diversity here made the change "growth" and the system grew.
We get bigger, keep the soul intact, and get better.

I have been accused of being an optimist; of actually giving DKos too much credit for diversity, that the
pitchforks rattle much more often than I am aware.
    Maybe so.
Then I think about Itzl and just have to smile.

I have two sons, have spent a large part of my adult years closely working with elementary schools and my family also happens to have grown up around firearms.
This tragedy has us all nine kinds of messed up.

Some folks seem to feel they have the market cornered on righteous indignation and moral outrage and deep, withering sadness.
    They don't.

Thanks for letting me long-winded sort a little here in your diary.

    Peace.

    •  Thanks for the long-winded... (11+ / 0-)

I relate to every word. This seems to be the crux:

Some folks seem to feel they have the market cornered on righteous indignation and moral outrage and deep, withering sadness.
      They don't.
It is a stressful time of year for so many reasons --weather changing, dark, holidays with the obligations and tensions, family issues and financial concerns... Many people who are in their jobs have seasonality, reports that must be finished, accounts to be cleared, shelves to be stocked and restocked...

      and this...

and we grieve and know not whom to blame. And often there is no clear target, so we take it out on whomever is closest. And that is you. And me. And all those who've had to walk away for a time.

Yes, the community changes, people come and people go. But we pride ourselves on our compassion, our respect, our fact-based reality...

And now I am going on...

thank you. and Peace to you and yours.
