    •  it sounds cliched... (13+ / 0-)

but I think how lucky I am to have her in my life.  She was pretty scared when she first arrived.  I can see it in comparison to how she is now.  I think she was just so happy to be out of the shelter setting which was noisy with lots of people traipsing in and out, and lots and lots of kittens jumping all around just being... well, kittens.  ;-)

the person who contacted me about her knew she just needed a quieter setting and permanency.  She lost her previous human mom and had been left with her brother for about 5 months, alone in the trailer where they all had lived while their mom's daughter apparently came by every once in a while to feed them and clean the litter box.  But they then were void of human love and contact.

You can tell that she was previously very loved.  She loves being brushed and groomed.  Loves to sit on laps (and falls fast asleep) and will purr and purr.  When she finally discovered the bed, she first tucked herself by my head, and then finally (I think realizing I wasn't going away) moved down to rest up against my back.

It's been a long year's journey for her, for us!!  And one I think we both were glad for each others company.  :)

ps - her brother was adopted, too.  He had other health issues that didn't allow him to be adopted right away.  Both of them were senior cats, and the shelter folks were very afraid they would be overlooked by all the kittens available.  Thankfully their stay at the shelter was only for a couple of months.

You are a special person giving a special kitty a wonderful home. May you both (all) be happy and healthy together!

      •  I have a very soft spot for adult cats (6+ / 0-)

I love cats of all ages; I am not a baby-mom kind of person, whatever the species of baby; and adult cats desperately need homes, so adult rescue cats are a very good fit for me AND them.

Right now, tho, all my rescues have crossed the bridge and I have my most recent rescue's 6 kittens (they'll be 5 next summer, but they'll always be Kittens to me...). They are emotionally very different from most of my rescue cats, having never been abandoned, starved, caged for weeks at an animal shelter, etc.

The older and softer I get, the more I get teary when I hear a critter has found a forever home.

overlooked, even by kittens?  It is so gratifying to hear of successful adoptions such as this, when an animal settles into a home that is just the right one, er, I mean, rite wun.

Was a foster... And i was called because i had already fostered two others previously for this shelter.

She became one of the fosters that stayed....:-)

          Totally won my heart.
