    is my take.  Names have been changed or invented, references to actual events inserted in and out of context --  it's a deliberate attempt to dupe.  And you're right, it's silly.

      You are right.....Just wanted to create some debate and see what peoples opinions on the supposed end of the world on Dec. 21st. I must say that some of the responses have been classic...

        It's clever, insofar as the diary illustrates how fact and fiction can be interwoven to produce pseudoscientific and/or conspiracy hoaxes (is there a name for this stuff?).  I think you would have avoided the donuts if you'd been more clear about what you were attempting to do -- you know, add some metatextual commentary in addition to the "Fake News Stories" tag.
