  •  The coldness and lack of empathy (26+ / 0-)

Seems so prevalent in the pro gun lobby, in the people who support gun rights.   His attitude is so typical.  Today I find it very, very upsetting.

The 'shift' is hitting the fan.

    •  There is a reason why the Republican (7+ / 0-)

lineup was called a clown car.  Fox media mouthpieces are just the same clowns.  They all live in a bubble, have each other on their shows, and people with the same clown attention getting tactics.

They are realizing their voice is becoming disrespected for their idiotic views.  Now is the time to flat out laugh in their faces.   Push back for the better of America is necessary and the time is now.  President Obama won re-election quite handily.  I'm glad.

    •  Very shortly after the news of the shooting, (6+ / 0-)

on Facebook there were understandably many posts of shock, outrage, and mourning. A typical example would be a post by a woman, teacher, and mom expressing her sorrow, with supportive comments by other friends. Then along come the right-wing gun nuts. It's like they have no sense at all that right then, when we are visibly upset about 20 children being slaughtered in their classrooms, what we really want and need is for them to come poop all over the thread with a bunch of ridiculous factoids about how gun control won't work. Seriously, are they missing a piece of brain or something?

is "missing a piece of brain", more or less. Or in less lurid language, it's inborn brain function. I know a couple of people like this, and they have real problems expressing empathy anywhere beyond the people they know personally or feel connected to "tribally" (same religion or ethnic group).

I was in a room with one of them and several other people Friday when I first heard about the massacre. I'd been wearing headphones, and took them off to tell the rest of the group the horrible news. While everyone else' response was shock and dismay, the first words out of her mouth were: "If someone at that school had been armed, maybe they could have taken him out".

I don't worry, though, that she'll end up "taking someone out", because we live in a state with very strict gun laws.
