  •  It takes an assault weapon (10+ / 0-)

to chew up twenty six people in a matter of minutes.

Can we stop bad things from ever happening? Hardly. Should we not even try? No fucking way.

An unsuccessful shoe bomb attack resulted in nine years of inconvenience for every flier in the country. It would be nice to think [this diabolical act] might lead to some similar inconveniences. --mrblifil

    •  I hear what you're saying, but (0+ / 0-)

any semi-automatic rifle or handgun could do the same if you've got more than one (in case of jam) and a few loaded clips. Not to mention some particularly lethal ammo.

      •  I guess you are suggesting we do away (1+ / 0-)

with them, too. I'm suddenly finding I'm not concerned at all with these tired old arguments the pro-gun lobby has pushed for years. Keep naming gun types that will do significant damage, and I'll advocate banning them.

        •  Then please, get on it asap. (0+ / 0-)

I'll wish you luck, you will no doubt need it. I do not expect to see firearms banned in my lifetime, so I try to keep my advocacy relevant to what IS possible.

A ban on high capacity clips for both rifles and handguns. Serious restrictions on certain types of ammo as well as how much ammo any individual can purchase legally in any given year. Requisite liability insurance to be carried on each and every firearm the person owns, renewed annually and with a penalty of confiscation if the insurance lapses. A piece of the liability pocket-pie if your gun is ever used in the commission of a crime, even if it was stolen. Unless the theft is duly reported in a timely manner.

None of this will effect any criminal, of course, but it would help ensure law-abiding citizens are being responsible with their firearms.
