NR is correct. Here's why. Nothing will happen vis a vis new gun regulations. Nothing. Columbine, Aurora, Giffords, none of that changed any laws. None. Why didn't ANY Democrat run on gun control in the last several elections? Because it is a political (vote) loser for either party due to the popularity of gun rights and the influence of gun rights groups. And the courts have repeatedly held up increasingly less restrictive gun laws in their interpretation of the 2nd amendment.

So words will be spoken - again, but no real action will be taken. Because no one, including the President is really going to have the political capital to tackle this. And even if he tried- the courts, public opinion and political realities would win out. If he really were serious he would have said a lot more than "will use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens -- from law enforcement to mental health professionals to parents and educators -- in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this.”

Maybe they'll hold a summit, or a town hall but there's no hint he'll support any new regulation.

Maybe it's not how they meant it exactly, but I think they are correct.
