  •  I always kept my door locked, but propped it open (6+ / 0-)

    in opposition to policy.  I had challenging students, and if there was an incident in the room, invariably the problem student would run from the room, and I would shut the door so she/he couldn't return.  I also liked to be able to hear ruckus starting in the hall.

    In case the problem student refused to leave, I could take everyone else out and none of them could charge back in once the door was shut.

    We had been repeatedly trained in how to shelter in case of an outside threat, but in my case the danger to others was usually someone in the classroom.
