officers in marked cars went to a grocery store parking lot to check a suspicious vehicle.

During the course of checking the vehicle, the two backup officers were shot dead - in the head - and the shooter escaped in the car.

These were armed, trained, knowledgeable experienced officers with years on the job, who were approaching a known dangerous situation cautiously.

And yet, two are dead and the suspect got away.

Three against one. Two are dead. The suspect got away.

How the hell anyone can think a grade school librarian or nurse or teacher can "win" a shoot-out with a guy carrying an assault weapon is just FAR beyond me.

It is an insane proposal that we arm everyone everywhere.

All the science and history says one thing:  "Fewer guns and less powerful guns equals fewer deaths. Period. Full stop."

And that's where we are today.

"The law is meant to be my servant and not my master, still less my torturer and my murderer." -- James Baldwin. July 11, 1966.
