but I sure don't feel very endangered. What do you want to talk about re gun control?

The Weld County part of Longmont is pretty small, W of county line road.

even if I don't agree. In general I don't whine. I also work to elect people to give the best chance to make my kids safe and healthy and educated.

            •  Elections Just Part of the Equation (0+ / 0-)

Electing the right people is, of course, important, but so is pressuring our elected officials to do what we feel is best for our country.

The obvious first step is to have our elected officials introduce and pass a ban of assault weapons and multi-ammo clips.  We need to contact our elected representatives to do this and if your vote count is correct and we don't have the votes, then we keep working to make it so we do get the votes.  Picket NRA, boycott stores that sell the assault weapons and clips, etc.  Make it toxic from a business and political sense for people to oppose the assault weapon ban.

              Do you not recognize sarcasm?

              Sarcasm
              From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
              Jump to: navigation, search

Sarcasm is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter gibe or taunt",[1] usually conveyed through irony or understatement.[2] Most authorities distinguish sarcasm from irony;[3] however, others argue that sarcasm may or often does involve irony[4] or employs ambivalence.[5]

you what it's like to respond in a respectful manner so that you might well do the same in a future thread.

People who are sarcastic and angry do nothing but promote hate and fear and anger in the world. What kind of place do you want to live in.

I have children, I choose to live differently.

I think we can fight against guns the way conservatives fight against abortion rights.

They wrote the rulebook, we just need to follow it.

We don't need to change the constitution, just choke off access little by little, year  by year.

You won't need to count votes.

        •  Manchin & Warner were busy distancing (0+ / 0-)

themselves from the NRA just yesterday, weren't they? So let's not be quite that quick to just write legislative action off.

Besides, taking a vote and losing it (or getting it thru the Senate only to be blocked by the House) conceivably could have some larger political ramifications as well. Think Boehner wants to be fighting on yet another issue on politically iffy ground?

The facts on the ground have changed. Most likely forever. Something like what happened in Australia may not be possible, not yet at least. But what if there's another massacre in the next six months? What then?

(Clearly, the event referenced in the diary wasn't enough to make much of an impression on you, but still....)
