Oh my, this gets so tiring, another diary claiming, very inaccurately, that only atheists, and certainly not Christians, are capable of believing in evolution. Ironically, the beliefs of Jews and Muslims seem to be omitted from the conversation, although I'm not claiming that the beliefs of those faiths are monolithic.

Love the way that the noisy fundamentalists have captured the debate as to how Christians believe, and sucked a lot of otherwise thoughtful liberals into accepting this meme, thus adding to the division. Of course, that's what the fundies want, you know.

My pre-disposition, as a Christian committed to the Faith, is that fundies seek to limit God, to rewrite the meaning of the term omnipotent in order to put God in a box called the Holy Bible, so that they don't have to face the vastness of time and space that is the Universe. In so doing, they show little faith, I argue.

Nothing about evolution is contrary to a belief that God created the Universe. The word and description 'omnipotent' applied to God implies something that humans cannot understand, so it's kind of sad seeing fundies try and track the age of the planet by using the Biblical timeline. The arguments they present against phylogenetics is a classic!

So, please, stop with the stereotyping, OK? That's what the righties do as a matter of accepted practice. See the persistence of racism! Do liberals and progressives have to engage in this shallow reasoning as well? It's very frustrating. I don't feel threatened by atheists or agnostics, nor do I see any reason to engage in to scorning them...
