Three of my Facebook "friends" posted this and similar garbage over the weekend and I was livid. I left very foul and blunt comments, including an FU. I feel bad about it now but was so furious at the insensitivity and stupidity that I lashed out. I ignored notifications of their responses and have not gone back. I just don't see the upside of arguing with deluded gun freaks who, in this case, are old high school and family friends. In a way, I think it is best that these misguided tools display this sort of stupidity, as it furthers the cause of... some kind of action. I don't pretend to know what will work, but I feel it is long past using excuses to do nothing. At this point, I favor all the control we can push through, and I don't care whether it has proven to work or not. I just want to take back some of the ground won by the NRA and their ilk over the years and restore some piece of sanity. They don't belong at the table, as their idea of what is "reasonable" has resulted in 300 million guns and thousands of needless deaths.

I guess I am still trying to justify telling an elderly family friend to "fuck off"...

It needs to be done!  Maybe they will 'unfriend' you, but maybe they will also, just for 2 seconds, THINK and ponder, why you believe as you do.

Maybe you can go back and apologize for the language but say you have seen enough, and people need to start considering the results of an unfettered gun culture.  This isn't the 1760s.

That's at least 50% of the problem over the issue.  People keep giving rabid gun owners a pass.  Not to mention violent TV, movies & video games as an example of how to respond to disagreements, crime and problems.

on my facebook used that China stabbing as part of the gun conversation.  I replied, " Interesting to note that the China stabber didn't succeed in killing a single person."

Believe it or not he replied, "killing a single person." ---Does it really matter if someone died in this most recent attack in China? Does it make it any less evil and insane?

I replied, " Actually I find there to be a rather huge difference between being injured and being dead. Silly that. "

Can you believe that they have completely fucking missed the point of the difference between a knife and a gun attack?

Then someone said, "Oddly enough, if everyone carried a gun and knew how to use it - you'd probably see a lot less gun violence. I mean, who is going to pull a gun in a room knowing that when he does he will have a bunch pointed back at him? Believe that is how Sweden "works".

To which I replied, " I have seen guns go off accidentally two different times. I will give that a big ole pass."

      OMG the burns.
