  •  an obvious solution for gun violence (0+ / 0-)

Castrate all the men. You must have noticed that every single mass murderer has been male. So if we castrate all the men at an early age (well, not ALL of them - a small number of especially intelligent, talented or otherwise exceptional males will be allowed to keep their balls in order to perpetuate the race) we will have no more massacres. Also - a huge cut in the number of rapes, assaults, thefts and other crimes. Since only about 10% prison inmates are female http://en.wikipedia.org/... we can save a fortune by closing 90% of our prisons. We won't need so many expensive and ineffective cops, and will have to pay less for courts and judges. What's not to like?

I set out this hypothetical resolution as an object lesson that an easy, obvious solution may not be the best solution. Both sides of the debate need to realize that sometimes cures can be worse than the disease.

      otherwise works for me, meow

there's a sign in my feedstore, 'In the end only kindness matters'

so perhaps we could define kind... me I start with a bucket of food ... whatever, but maybe that's the only reason to pack these assault rifles, to be kind? but only on a cartridge of 10 rounds... 30 is not kind

Sure, men are more likely to commit certain violent crimes. But society, and its systems, still tend to cut women a bit more slack. If criminal penalties were totally gender neutral there would be more women in prison than there are now.
