  •  I think the key thing is working on Christmas (7+ / 0-)

    (or any religious holiday) should be an option, not an assumption. As to the flexibility to take other, non-Christian holidays off, it might be desirable to set a cap on how many. I have an interfaith holiday calendar and it is fun to see the variety of holidays, but there are a couple of religions with dozens of them!



    Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.

    •   A set number of "personal days" (6+ / 0-)

      would be agreeable, say 2 or 3.  These days would be in addition to vacation and sick leave days, and the employee would have to set them on their hire date so the company could accommodate them and plan for coverage if needed. Since holy days tend to be rather static, it's not like anyone would have to change the dates every year - those holy days that are mobile all have set formulas for calculating when they'll occur so people know years in advance.
