His ENTIRE POLITICAL CAREER has been based on conceding to his political opponents and making sure they had what they wanted.

He's pathologically obsessed with being "bipartisan" and he thinks the more populist Democratic party of FDR/Truman/LBJ was too unruly and disorderly and partisan, and needs to be whipped into shape, i.e. made more submissive to the will of the 1%. He said as much repeatedly from the time he started running for president--but people simply didn't listen.

He's got "capital, political capital," as the previous Decider so eloquently said, and he's gonna spend it turning the Democratic party into the lean, mean, Wall Street party of balanced budgets and fiscal discipline, whether we peons like it or not.

He will never run for anything again, so we no longer have any leverage over him. He can do as he pleases. And in his mind, our reelecting him means we voted for him personally rather than for any particular policies. So he thinks he has a mandate to do as he likes.

Shit, if Time Magazine picked him as the Person of the Year, he must be doing something right, huh? And in their eyes he is--slashing the New Deal, just like the Beltway pooh-bahs want.
