I don't think there has been any solid reporting on that, just gossip and speculation.

He smashed the hard drive on his computer before he went to the school.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd be surprised if it was vid games he didn't want people to see on there.

The authorities are apparently trying to piece together what was on there. I dread to think.

      •  I agree it probably wasn't video games. (1+ / 0-)

I've read a few places that his favorite game was "Dynasty Warriors" which is completely bloodless. It's a historical war game that contains no guns and no blood.

FWIW, I'm incredibly interested to know what computer games he was playing around the clock as he stayed in the mansion and did not work and did not go to school and argued with his mother.

But we just don't know, so far at least.

Incidentally, I had an incident many years ago where a German child porn ring discovered a security hole in a server I was running and used it for a month as a storage place for incredibly awful child porn being distributed around the world.  I discovered it after noticing my bandwidth usage go sky-high, but it took me days of effort to track it down, since they were hackers who had everything maximally hidden.  When I finally found the hidden files, I almost fainted.  I immediately (and perhaps stupidly) reported this to the FBI, and they did nothing.

In subsequent research, I learned that law enforcement has incredible tools to extract data from supposedly destroyed harddrives, even if the data has been deleted, the drive has been smashed and burned, etc.  They have mathematical tools to extract data from incredibly low levels of magnetic differentials.

Thus, whatever you think, you can NEVER completely erase data from a harddrive, even if you use special programs that overwrite all data sectors with zeros, and even if you reformat the disc, etc.

Therefore, I think they'll probably get a lot off of that monster's harddrives.

I'm eager to hear about it.

The only way to erase a hard drive is to melt the discs themselves with thermite. I have a friend who offered that as a service, mostly because he loves being able to use thermite.

Melting the disks is pretty much the only way you can go.
