  •  You can change jobs if you don't agree (4+ / 0-)

with your compensation plan.   You don't have that option if you are 90 and want a different retirement plan.

    •  Yes you are absolutely correct... (2+ / 0-)

just wasn't my point.  I should have been more concise.  As I mentioned above, I get bothered by the word cut if it is not used more precisely.  A reduction in the rate of increase might result in a cut in someone's buying power from year to year depending on where they live what they buy etc.  It will definitiely result in a reduction from what they would have had previously in terms of dollars if the same rate were to stay in place.

Again I don't necessarily agree that it is a good idea, I just prefer more precise language rather than the generalized "cut" because the Average Joe equates this with less money.  I would like to see more discussion of this...timing just kindof crummy.  I always prefer things stand or fail on their own merits.   As I  mentioned in my original post, if Congress contemplated this I'd like to see the max income ceiling lifted as well as some other items.

But again you are correct, my elder relatives don't have the luxury of choice.

not the easiest thing to do in this economy, and most "changes" are downward.

I consider myself lucky in the skills and experience I've nabbed along the way and i have a good gig now, but I'm sure there are a lot of folks out there that thought the same thing but then got laid off.  I always try to remind my kids how good we have it and how thankful they should be. The youngest said the other day...if you picked 700 kids from around the world how rich would I be...I said if you picked them at random you would likely be the richest one...I could almost see the perspective creeping into his brain.

I just wanted to stand on a box for a second and blurt my point out however small potatoes that might be and knowing it was cutting across the narrative...Made my day to at least have 1 +.  Happy holidays!
