  •  Thank you for writing this (9+ / 0-)

I wrote about Australia's experience with restricting guns yesterday.
On Sunday April 28 1996, 35 people were slaughterd and a stunned Australia vowed Never Again!

and watched some news clips on YouTube from the time, thanks to your diary last night.

I can't wait until we've got to do the same to learn about mass shootings here, rather than simply turning to the daily news.

    •  Martin Bryant was the shooter. (3+ / 0-)

He suffers delusional and irrational ideation, also apparent hallucinations centering on his father's suicide and learning from his father's ghost/phantasm to hate the owners and occupants of a Port Arthur bed-and-breakfast. After getting started he just kept killing people.

Two weeks after that attack, Australia undertook to separate such individuals from advanced weaponry. The theory of these laws approximates handling for explosives, as described above.

Bryant's killings took place mostly at Port Arthur Bay, Tasmania. It is physically one of the more beautiful places one could imagine, apart from bizarre history including 1466 unmarked graves of prisoners. Bryant is now serving 35 life sentences plus 1035 years.
