  •  I remember many discussion (10+ / 0-)

that went in this same vein when it came to marriage quality and LGBT rights. Now these issues are only being denounced by the extreme right. There is momentum more than ever on assault weapons legislation and to say it will sink us in 2016 is completely misreading the public mood.

    •  As a very staunch supporter of marital equality, (0+ / 0-)

I do not see these two issues as comparable politically.

Gun ownership and associated rights is a long embedded part of American culture, wheras this long-overdue progression of civil rights is reflecting a slower developing social and legal consensus.

One does not need to forecast the public mood on the guns rights/control debate ... because past history of the AWB was demonstrably bad for Democrats at the time and will most certainly undermine Dr. Dean's efforts at constructing a 50 State electoral strategy (which I say as a resident of a western wing nut red state).

a long embedded part of American culture?  Now you're making me laugh.

would let you appear capable of thoughtfulness instead of knee jerk illiteracy.

What I said ... one more time ... marital equality and gun issues ARE NOT COMPARABLE as political issues because respect for marital equality IS NOT LONG EMBEDDED in our national culture.

But by all means, keep laughing ... both issues are such a yuck-a-minute.
