  •  Christmas was a Conspiracy! (11+ / 0-)

1500 years ago, the Pope was having a hard time competing with pagan religions which had much more interesting ceremonies and celebrations.

So if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  The Pope decide to try to take over pagan holidays and replace them with Christian celebrations.  He succeeded in two out of three: Christmas and Easter (which replaced the pagan rites of spring).

The result is that Christmas is the time of the winter solstice when the sun is "re-born" and begins its ascent in the sky instead of the actual date of Christ's birth.  Easter is based on the moon cycle instead of the Passover of Judaism which is Biblical.

But thankfully, the Pope utterly failed in trying to replace the pagan celebration of All Hallows Eve (Halloween) with All Saints Day on November 1.   Another win for kids everywhere.

Compared to the Pagans, early Christians were....well uptight Jews!  Tough rules, no parties and their leaders abstained from sex??  Not the best marketing campaign!!

Prospective Convert:  So can I still have a winter feast?

Christian Missionary:  Um......SURE!  Thats when Jesus was born!!

PC:  I thought that was in March or April?

CM:, see we celebrate in December because that is when the wise men got there.

PC:  I thought that was a few years later....ok...never mind.  What about spring festival?  Do you have one of those?

CM: Um......YES!!!  Its called Easter and it celebrates rebirth!!

PC:  Sounds a lot like what I do now....ok I can deal with this.  What about Solstice and running around Nekked?

CM:  Well officially thats not allowed.........but off the record....I go to the one in Northshire.  LOTS of hot chicks!!!
