the less cuts - Boehner whined recently that there was more revenues than cuts and seems to want a 1:1 cuts to revenues ratio in this deal.

To my Shaw quote above, it also applies to Democrats and agreeing to cut SS.  Once you agree to cut even a little, you've established who you are - all that's left is the negotiating.

The NRA is the Gun Manufacturer Lobby. Nothing more. Their pontification about the second amendment is nothing more than their ad jingle. They're the domestic version of the Military Industrial Complex.

      Tax raises for cpi cut.

The slippery slope arrguments go both ways.

It's always a slippery slope.  Better to deal with actual stuff.  Chained cpi is bad because of its affect on people.

      •  Politically, it seems the best deal for the Dems (1+ / 0-)

is to go over the cliff, or whatever it's called. There will be major cuts to defense (think defense contractors, not military), and no cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. All taxes will revert to before Bush levels. From what I can understand, it seems Obama is concerned about what less income for middle income people will mean for the economy. I think that's a valid concern. And then there's the horrible possibility that in excess of 2 million people will be abruptly cut from the UI rolls. As Bush would say, "This is hard work."

A ddeal could be better but it depends on what is in the deal.
