    pile of sh*t Cedwyn's leaders have just handed down to him/her. It's a break point:  either you have to split off from your leaders (which sucks) or you have to engage in pretzel logic.

    Cedwyn doesn't want to split off from the leaders, which is understandable; actually nobody does, which is something people on Cedwyn's side seem genuinely not to understand.
    (It's no fun to realize that all the powerful people in the room are willing to screw you over.)

    Since Cedwyn doesn't want to break from his/her leaders, the only options left are the following: Cedwyn has to either 1)fall silent, or 2)peddle what is, well, basically nonsense and excuses. Not being a cowardly sort, but being pretty assertive, Cedwyn chooses 2) and tries to make the best of it.

    That's my read, but of course I could be wildly off base.
