  •  I tend to shop at a local plumbing place (3+ / 0-)

    which is actually 25 minutes away and across state lines, but still get to Home Depot or Lowe's when desperate for something to fix a needed water/gas/etc. issue and nobody else is open nearby.  It's a necessary evil, unfortunately - there are so few local hardware, electrical and plumbing supply places, any longer.  Houses need almost constant maintenance and fixes, let alone periodic upgrades.

    I grew up seeing to the sights of worn-in wooden floors and hearing the confident banter or seasoned veterans at Parts Desks giving advice and selling what each person actually needed . . . very few of those places near me, unfortunately.
