    Of course, some of us believe that we are actually an economy driven by cheap oil.  And we have run out of cheap oil.  In the long run, our economy is unsustainable whether you view this as a result of AGW or Peak Oil.  

    The sad thing is that many on the left understand AGW and want to take actions to curb the effect of it, but fail to understand that the hit to GDP growth rates are not inconsequential.    As a citizen of the reality based community I support taking the hit but many on the left assume that we can tackle AGW, Peak Oil and have growth rates that come some where close to supporting the assumptions built into SS and Medicare.

    And to say that we simply need to eliminate the cap is a progressive fantasy.    In case you don't understand the politics we are having a problem raising the top marginal tax rate from 35 percent to 39.6 percent.  And somehow you think that we can eliminate the cap which results in a much higher change then the switch between 35 percent to 39.6 percent.
