  •  There's a wicked strain of flu going around.... (12+ / 0-)

(I wrote about this last Saturday so, quoting myself:)

going around right now, especially in the Indiana / Michigan areas. This last week brought news of

    1) Near Gary/Valparaiso, In  My b-i-l, a paramedic, started vomiting, couldn't stop and managed to get himself to ER where they had problems getting the condition to stop. Had to have IV's administered.

    2) Near Traverse City, MI  Separate incident, my brother had a similar condition, and after vomiting for 17 hours plus, was finally taken by ambulance to the hospital where he stayed for over 2 days, and IV's also to replenish fluids. Finally came home albeit exhausted and sore from the muscle aches.

I spoke with my brother two days ago and he's still very sore but doing ever so much better. The one good thing that this flu did for him is sort of hard reset his sugar numbers. He's had results 300 for ever so long and the docs increased his insulin but that hadn't helped. He's now reporting about 140, and he's ecstatic about the result.

That said, I do hope Kitsap River returns to health soon. Sending healing energy from NoVa.

    •  Give your brother my congrats on his numbers (6+ / 0-)

BG can be difficult, and I'll bet he's ecstatic. One reason my GP wants me off the prednisone is it is messing with my A1C pretty badly, taking me from under a 6.0 for many years to a horrendous 7.3 most recently. Pure pred buildup. My GP is also my diabetologist and he's had me staying well below 6 since 2005 but this is beyond my ability to control, even with a careful regimen of diet, exercise, and non-insulin medications.

Your brother's numbers look good. I know first-hand how hard a struggle it can be: both Charles and I are type 2s.

All told this cost me over 24 hours of vomiting. Not at all good for my fluid balance.

Organ donors save lives! A donor's kidney gave me my life back on 02/18/11; he lives on in me. Please talk with your family about your wish to donate.

Why are war casualty counts "American troops" and "others" but never "human beings"?
