  •  Just to ad a bit of fair perspective. (6+ / 0-)

"blown" or missed veins are virtually inevitable especially on certain Pts. In many instances you can work only by feel and even if it is hit perfectly the vein may turn, roll or have a valve at the site preventing any return flow. This isn't like hooking up a garden hose folks.

when I first tried a stick in my own fistula, and with a blunt needle, too.

I'm usually not a hard stick for something like an IV, even when dehydrated, even though my veins roll dramatically and I throw clots. I had such a hard time with my fistula that Charles had to listen to it with a stethoscope every night and tell me where it was so I could syick it for dialysis. Didn't always work, either. I am a hard stick when it comes to dialysis needles.

Organ donors save lives! A donor's kidney gave me my life back on 02/18/11; he lives on in me. Please talk with your family about your wish to donate.

Why are war casualty counts "American troops" and "others" but never "human beings"?
