  •  Ah... well for one (16+ / 0-)

I refuse to travel during the holidays -- stick to my nuclear family and a few friends.

I do 99% of the shopping online -- again, not for extended family.  For one thing, there are too many of us on my side, and on the Mister's side, not everyone is in a position to participate.  So we just don't.

    •  Yes me too, Franken , since Mom and Dad are (2+ / 0-)

now goine...we stay home and my sister no longer has to endure a long plane ride here to PA with all the airport chaos she had to go through for 20 years. Now she visits me annually and stays for a month but in the summer when she can drive here and bring her dog.

We stopped travelling after Mom died...both of us decided to mail gifts to each other and call each other and email on christmas instead.  It is so much more relaxing.

    •  I also do almost all shopping online especially (0+ / 0-)

Cyber Monday and get it all done with early.  I was later than usual with christmas cards and baking because I got such a bad stomach flu that I am having trouble shaking...much like Hillary.

traveled for the holidays for 25+ years and then simply stopped. Now my immediate family gives the gift of time - we're gathering to make Grandma's bourbon balls recipe this afternoon - and no gifts.

But we do the sparkly winter lights - lit from Nov-March -  food, friends & alcohol. Always in demand is my recipe for Schnockers, wickedly alcoholic companion to eggnog, coffee or coke for that matter:

      2 cups bourbon
      1 cup dark rum
      1 cup brandy
      1 soft vanilla bean
1 whole allspice (crushed, use a hammer)
      2 large sticks of cinnamon
      7 whole cloves

Use cheap brands of alcohol because you can't tell the difference after you add the spices. Put it all in a bottle and let it sit in a cool dark place for a week or so. Lovingly turn it every now and then. Strain it into a clean bottle & put a sparkly bow on it. Tightly capped it will last at least a year if you happen to forget you've got it around, less if you remember.

      Happy Holidays!
