I have a lot of retired family members in MI and the number one thing keeping them there is no state taxes on their pensions. It probably escaped the thought processes of the MI state legislative process but seniors are a very desirable residents because they spend money, yet don't demand jobs something that should be of real interst to a state with one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation.

I used to give Snyder leeway in assuming that he had some empirically-justified rationale for his policy decisions, even if I didn't agree with them.

Since his recent embrace of RtWfL, I no longer assume he spends at least part of his conscious life in the reality based community. He's out to impose Austerity and cut taxes on the already ultra comfortable.

      Period. Full Stop.

He only speaks a few decibels less loudly and with less rhetorical vitriol than the other Snake Oil Salesmen who occupy far too many Governor's Mansions. The intent and result is still the same. That's part of what we need to organize around in order to "force his retirement" in 2014.

      Illinois doesn't tax retirement benefits.
