    or manufacture 0.50 caliber bullets outside of government hands. That would help deal with the Barrett issue, wouldn't it? Not right away, of course. But over time. The thing I fear most about the Barrett is its potential for use in assassinations. There is probably not an armored limo that can withstand it.

    The first time I heard of the Barrett, it was a story of how a bullet from one shattered the engine block of an Iraq armored column in the first Gulf War and that induced all of the Iraqi soldiers to surrender immediately, not that they needed tremendous inducement anyway.

    There are over 5000 of these rifles in private hands in the USA.

      If you want to say "50 caliber BMG" (Browning Machine Gun) that's better.  Keep in mind that the "bullets" aren't the issue, it is the brass cartridges (even empty)  which are the crucial component.   Legislation is always better when it's not a word salad.
