  •  not take down an airliner?... try on takeoff (1+ / 0-)

when the plane is past the go no-go point and needs full power - taking out one engine on a two engine jet or two on one wing on a four engine could cause it to lose power at a critical point, catch on fire and likely lead to the loss of the plane and all passengers.

It would be easy with the right placement behind or better, ahead  of the runway and some knowledge of the worst possible point to have catastrophic loss of power with or without a concomitant fire. Much easier to hit the plane on takeoff or just after than at high altitude... and with the likelihood it would come down in a populated area.

It does not bear thinking about. We rightly ban stinger heat seeking shoulder fired missiles... but here is a simpler arm but one that is still potentially deadly in the wrong hands that is freely available relatively speaking... albeit with some additional checks but the NRA seems to want to water down just about all safety checks etc.

And the same weapon could take out the pilots too in a similar scenario...
