When did Kerry announce he was resigning?  If he decided to retire in 2014, then we could have had a regular, not a special, election.  And been guaranteed of having a Democrat in the seat for the next two years.

he accepted to step aside in 08 for Clinton with the assurance that he would get the job if Pres. Obama won reelection.

Kerry is an adult and makes his own decision.

          What choice did he have?

Again, what evidence is there that Kerry would have resigned had he not gotten the position?

Kerry is the BEST choice for SOS by a long mile -

and would even be worth sacrificing a seat over

Won't it be fun to show the people who voted for Bush over Kerry in 2004 how awesome Kerry is in a world leadership position?

world leadership position.  It was Kerry who soothed Pakistan's ruffled feathers after the Bin Laden raid.  He has been to the Middle East more times than I can count.  The head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee plays a big role in our foreign policy.  After the President, VP, and SoS probably the biggest role.

This is not 1820, when SOS's had a lot more influence over policy.  There hasn't been a SOS who made any kind of mark since Kissinger.  The position is now little more than a goodwill ambassador.

If Kerry is the best choice to the best, he should be picked for the good of the Country.

You sound like the Republicans who claim criticism of U.S. policy is because the critics "hate America."
