    for all the credible Dem candidates; they are not well known outside of their own districts and the time available to mount a campaign against Brown, who has been running for over two years, is very short. Plus, Dems such as Markey and Capuano have been re-elected repeatedly with little or no opposition, so that competitive statewide general campaigns is not in their experience.
    I strongly suggest that MA residents write to Governor Patrick and urge him to appoint a person who would be a potential permanent replacement for Kerry's slot, not a placeholder. The Dem candidate needs wide exposure asap, and he/she won't benefit from being chewed up in a primary fight prior to having to face Brown in the run-off.
