I looked at them recently at Home Depot and Lowes.  They range from $19.95 (13watt 60 watt equ.) to $24.95 for a 12.5 watt 60watt equ. and on up from there.  Meanwhile CFLs are 14 watt for 60 equal and cost $1.00 at Dollar Tree.

I understand about the mercury pollution but I'm not yet ready to pay 20 to 25 times as much.  Further, we pay .12 a kilowatt so a 1 watt saving is .00012 per hour or about a quarter a year.

I admire you commitment but on my social security budget I'll have to wait until they are more affordable.

have 40-w equivalent LED A-type lamps usually for $10.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

on ebay for cheap. I bought four last month for $16 total.

I like the cool light. If you have lamp shades they make the light yellower anyway.

I have 6 10W par 27 long necks in my kitchen to replace  the former 75W halogens. So all six lights [floods on track] are 60W total compared to 450W and they last and last. They are bright and clean and definitely a whole lot cooler. The halogens used to heat up my pots on the pot rack.

An E 27 is the screw in part like a regular light bulb. The LEDs have fins to vent the heat even though they are cooler running. Some are called corn cobs, they have LEDs all over them.  Check the dimensions of the bulbs if you want to use shades. Some are exactly the same shape as a regular light bulb, but some are a lot larger. It might be better to use a harp on a lamp rather than use a bulb mounted shade.

      I love LEDS.
