street lights with LEDs (Old Monterey) and it's wonderful. The lights are pure white (although not sun spectrum) and I love them. They say that the hardware will pay it's cost back in less than ten years just from the electricity savings, much less than the expected cost of maintenance, so we are all very happy with them here. And the lights are also more environmentally friendly, and they look better. And they cost so much less, that they will pay for them selves in less than their projected lifespan.

I have had occasion to travel the last two months, and I can tell you that I can see the difference in lighting in many areas, if not from space, at least from landing altitude. LED lighting is the way to go. If only the manufactures of those lights put up some sort of sky shields. The LED lights pollute the night sky worse then the others in many cases.

As far as LED lights in home, I have loved every one of those I have purchased. They save me money and give off more light, and have lasted longer.

Disclaimer: I work for a manufacturer of LED lights for personal use.
