see videos on DK at all of late.  The area where they are briefly flashes black, but then goes totally white background with just a big open empty space where a video should be.

    •  Look it up on YouTube or another site (2+ / 0-)

      that works for you:

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Fishmen

      H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society (?IIRC)

    •  I know you have to have Adobe Flash Player (0+ / 0-)

      Dr, everyone knows about that.

Could you have a software problem?

I have a tech friend. Know nothing except adobe reader, flash player, helps videos run better. Until he installed it, I couldn't enlarge mine.

Is your Adobe Reader/Flash Player doing updates. Mine is set so it informs me of new updates. Check and see if there are any updates available.

Clearing your cookies helps too. Don't do the cache tough. I think that will sign you out everywhere you're signed in. Clearing just cookies helps a lot.

All the best. Find a tech friend and ask for help.

I just did a yum update a couple of days back after not having done so in forever, so it probably updated some package that has issues in the newest version.

        (I run under linux.)

I should know by now not to update things that are working :P

        •  How come you don't use (0+ / 0-)

          Firefox? wikipedia

You should be able to update anything. Sometimes you get signed out of blogs, etc after updating but, you should not have significant problems like being un-able to see videos.

Now that you mention it though. Over here at Kos some videos don't play for me either.

They say stuff like you just said, blast, darn, sorry, but you cannot view this video with your set up.

But I have the adobe reader suite, which I'm sure includes flash player.

So it's not just you. But I see most of the videos here without problem.

Ask the help desk if it's only happening here. And if elsewhere. Ask a tech friend to look at your computer.
          That's what I would do.

          •  I do. (0+ / 0-)

Firefox is a browser, Linux is an operating system, like windows, but one whose code is entirely open, so it can be rewritten by anyone who wants to work on it.

The problem is that since linux, because of its open licensing requirements, can't get licensed for some proprietary technologies, often video-related, and has to rely on work-around code, and it sometimes takes some time to get working updates out when a company doing video work decides to change something.
