  •  This isn't about Florida (5+ / 0-)

Yes, Florida will be impacted, but so will every maritime state on the Gulf and East Coast.  (The Pacific Coast has a different longshore union and different employer group.)

The maritime employers, the U.S. Maritime Alliance, wants to cut the pay and medical contributions to the workers of the International Longshoremen's Association.

A port strike is major.  It can be devastating to millions of workers and businesses, large and small, across the country.  Just one example among many--there are auto parts shipped from Asia to the assembly plants across the U.S., and a disruption of parts to a Toyota plant in Kentucky means lay offs of workers there, truck drivers, etc.

A longshoremen's strike is a really big deal.  The President is President of all of us, and must take much more into consideration than just the bone headed governor of Florida.
