and by the time it was necessary to actually do something to, well, win the election, there was no money left.

has devolved into a Ponzi scheme.  And the people that get hurt the most is their deranged base.

Everyone in that Party was conning each other, The entire CONservative movement of the past 30-40 years has been an elaborate con. Lining up the racists without saying it outright, collecting up the Jeebus crowd without actually giving them the theocracy they crave, bringing in the NRA voters by working to enrich the gunmakers, using the "philosophy" of Ayn Rand to justify their outright greeed, lying us into wars, expanding the size, cost and intrusiveness of our government while claiming they stand for reducing it, spend us into deep debt and then using that debt to bludgeon us into cutting loose the poor.
They don't believe in government yet they have the majority in the House and an effective minority in the Senate which they use to "prove" that "government doesn't work" so re-elect them because FREEDOM.
Everything they've done has been a total conjob.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

I will heartily recommend it, an amen for the Jeebus crowd, a 21 gun salute for the NRA voters all in the name of FREEDOMZZZZZ and endless wars. It has been one continuous con job by the likes of Rove and the Kochs playing out for those in the Republican party too afraid to come out of their bunker. Do they wonder where their money went? Even after the bajillionz spent on campaign con artists over the past 40 years they still drink the kool-aid. AMAZING. P.T. Barnum is still laughing.
