  •  Just once I can recall (17+ / 0-)

It was Christmas 1991. My husband and I had driven down to Vegas with our daughter for her first Christmas - she was 9months old (took her first steps in a Motel 6 in Bakersfield). So here's the whole side of the family gathered around the table for Christmas dinner... but there wasn't quite enough room so the kidlings were eating at the coffee table in the adjacent room. The room has a huge fireplace made of flagstone with a seat that runs along in front, also stone.

Well, my grand-niece was sitting in one of those tiny plastic chairs and leaning it back. Just as we grown-ups saw the potential for disaster, she leaned back, the chair legs snapped and - wham! - the back of her head hits the stone edge of the bench-seat. The usual crying and blood, scaring the other rug rats. My cousin took her to an ER and was back later with poor little Taylor with a shaved spot and 10 stitches. She did manage to enjoy her late gift-opening, though.

Thank your stars you're not that way/Turn your back and walk away/Don't even pause and ask them why/Turn around and say 'goodbye'/Just wish them well.....
