because Sandy Hook shootings are just like the debt.

    Seriously, he wrote this

There are moments in our lives when we have an opportunity to ignite tremendous positive change—not just in the lives of the customers and communities we serve every day, but in our country. This was evident in the outpouring of support in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary that claimed 26 innocent lives, including one of our partners (employees), Lauren Rousseau.
n the spirit of the Holiday season and the Starbucks tradition of bringing people together, we have a unique opportunity to unite and take action on an incredibly important topic. As many of you know, our elected officials in Washington D.C. have been unable to come together and compromise to solve the tremendously important, time-sensitive issue to fix the national debt.

It's time to unfrack California before it gets fracked. @RL_Miller

Obama compromised on taxes two years ago by agreeing to extend all the Bush tax cuts for two years.

Obama compromised on spending last year by agreeing to the cuts in both military and domestic spending which are set to start in a week, though gradually.

... to create yet another cliffhanger moment in order to justify slashing the social safety net.

        •  So, it's all about slogans. Why not a slogan fix? (0+ / 0-)

When it comes to the fiscal cliff, we went down the rabbit hole a long time ago.  Since the whole thing is a bit of marketing magic, why not a marketer's magic fix - as long as there is no special austerity magic added.  I can get behind slogans claiming that we are now all in this together and the upward adjustment in tax rates on the wealthy (I'm OK with $250,000 as the cutoff) have bipartisanship written all over them.  A revision to the sequesters, even for Defense, may be OK too.  Live to fight another day.  The danger here comes when bullshitters start to believe their bullshit.  Let Obama and Boehner go Ta- Dah, and were done.
