  •  I'm just starting to vaguely talk garden. (7+ / 0-)

    I'm going to consider going in with parents because they have land and space, and I don't. I have ONE good spot that isn't shaded and I may put a cherry tomato there for my husband to eat like candy, but otherwise growing for tomato sauce will have to happen out at my parents' house. Also may do some peas and contemplate whether relations are improved enough to consider starting a strawberry bed.

    My apple tree had a mast year this year, so my parents' trees should have one this coming year, and we will be so very busy. 120 quarts of applesauce is not at all impossible. (I will siphon some of that off for apple butter.)

        Applesauce, spices, (IMO, a shot of hard cider helps it be better) and leave two quarts in a crockery cooker overnight with the lid off and the thing set to a simmer. It'll cook it down without a need to stir very often (I do occasionally anyway) and without worrying about burning.

          hard cider or perhaps apple mead.

            to press for juice. Although I do have a press. If we have a mast year, my dad may be cool with it. He is very dubious about alcohol, but while I can't drink it, I cook with it all the time. My last batch of apple wine has enlivened numerous pork roast and batches of apple butter.

              simmering them in a bit of hard apple cider, while adding sliced sweet peppers,  then add your Italian sausage to make the meat for spaghetti -- and then the tomato sauce and you got some might fine spaghetti sauce.
