Suppose instead the paper published the addresses of anyone who voted in a Democratic primary. That's public record, too.

I still think it's creepy to publicize anyone's home address for just about any reason.

    •  It's in the damn phone book (0+ / 0-)

And just why would you draw a connection between gun owners and Democratic voters?  Despite the fever dreams of wingnuts, voting Democratic doesn't endanger anyone's life, but owning a gun certainly can.  That's the pertinent difference:  the location of deadly weapons, vs. a legitimate political choice.

You win the award for most inane comparison of the day.  Congratulations.

for anyone who chooses an unlisted number or doesn't use a landline. A lot of people do that for privacy reasons.

I picked Democratic voters because I thought people here would better understand how it might feel to have your home address published in a newspaper.  Owning a firearm and voting are legally equivalent. So is having an abortion, by the way. Would you object if a newspaper published a list of women who had abortions and gave their addresses?

        •  What does that have to do with deadly weapons? (0+ / 0-)

Owning a firearm and voting are distinctly different rights, in terms of how they could affect nearby people.  That's why firearm owners are a list others have a right to know.

Guns don't kill people; idiots and crayzees with guns kill people.  And given the liberal distribution of idiots and crayzees in every community on the planet, we have some right to know whether the crazy neighbor always yelling at the neighborhood kids is fond of his guns.
