  •  I disagree that it's "all for show." (4+ / 0-)

I think he's doing a service, by reminding the public that the Democrats are at work, and the GOP are on vacation.  Reid is trying to break through a media fixated on "Congress is dysfunctional because both sides can't come to an agreement."
Then, when there is no deal by January, the public will at least have been informed that the GOP refused to do the work they were hired--by us--to do.

      for show.

There has been no movement until now and nobody's signaled that movement is likely to happen.

Might as well go home and spend the holidays with family.

In fact -- that might be, by far, the best service our legislators can provide.  Get out of that nasty little echo chamber inside the Beltway.  Maybe get an earful from some folks. "Son, I love you, but you're being an ass!"

"Bro/Sis -- How can you do this to me, to your poor little nieces and nephews?"

"I'm sorry, but your coffee's gonna cost twice as much now.  I call it the Joe's Diner coffee tax, and it's going to a good cause -- makin' sure people can still afford a cuppa after you yahoos screw everything up"

LG: You know what? You got spunk. MR: Well, Yes... LG: I hate spunk!
