  •  For when? Two years from now? (7+ / 0-)

They just returned the GOP House to power, thanks to gerrymandering and their own idiocy.

After 2010, how can we count on these 'voters' you speak of?

2012 being a Presidential year, at least people pay more attention.  But 2014 all bets are off.

Not slamming you here; just in a bad mood.

This is the reason we progressive need to support Conservative dems in the house. They tend to agree with us 60% of the time and they all fell on the sword to get Obama's agenda passed the first two years.

Conservative Dems were also the first to come out in favor of some gun control measures.

Considerably more than 60% of the time in most cases.

The episodes where they defect just stick in the craw.

I've swung back and forth about this.

Which part of the more Democrats and better Democrats do you want more focus on at any particular time?

I'm currently in the "more" camp. We need state legislatures, state attorneys general, governors, and the House of Representatives.

Some of the "better" Democrat push surely leads to shooting ourselves in the foot and prevents the above.

Last election, many didn't want to support Bob Kerrey in Nebraska. Bob Kerrey is way too liberal for current-day Nebraska, but wasn't nearly liberal enough for some of the party purity folks here. He was on the cusp of plausible Senate wins if resources could have been marshaled to help there. (I'm not saying that this would have been the next best marginal use of resources, Berkeley in Nevada would probably have been better.)

There were serious suggestions on this site to plan to primary Dick Durbin (based on his doing exactly what he was asked to do when appointed to Simpson-Bowles).

Even the odious NC Democrat-ish reps were worth trying to save.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

    •  To me, gerrymandering seems the bigger problem. (4+ / 0-)

More people voted for Democrats in the House than for Republicans. The problem is that the Republicans were able to game the system through gerrymandering. We have no democracy when it comes to elections.
