    Mark 10:25 is simply a colorful expression for "the impossible."  The Synoptic Gospels are abundant with words of woe for the rich - this is far from the only example.  Sometimes it is flat-out condemnation; other times there is hope for the rich if they give everything away.  I do not know of any examples of that actually happening.

    The reading of needle-as-gate appears in James Joyce's short story Grace, where it is held up as an example of shallow, materialistic Christianity.  I don't know if it originated with Joyce, but that would be amusing.
