designated Markey as one of  the ten dumbest members of congress.

He isn't on the list anymore, but you got to wonder.

(now you have to go to 15 to find a Democrat.)

Committee's hearings on suicidality and SSRIs a few olympiads ago.  Didn't come across as fodder for the funny papers then.

No idea if it was true or untrue.  But when I met him as a kid he seemed to be the most charismatic person I had ever seen.  Maybe it was the DNA but he was an incredible politician.

But he certainly must've rubbed some people the wrong way.  Because these polls involving house staffers always went against him.

When I grew up in Massachusetts Markey was seen as a lightweight.  Then again you still had folks like Joe Moakley alive and kicking.  He's gained a lot of seniority and a lot of experience since then.  And evidently from a lot of the posts here respect as well.

He's my Congressman and I've met with him face-to-face several times to lobby on various things as a constituent.

Just because the guy is Boston College and not Harvard doesn't make him dumb.

Assuming that he was actually on that list (citation?) and I gave a rat's ass what Spy Magazine said 20+ years ago.

I love it when people call me a liar.

To be fair, according to the article, Markey isn't exactly in the same class as the Republican idiots in this article, he was just not much liked or respected by his colleagues.

And while you might not care what was written in Spy Magazine in in 1989, people who respect what journalism once was recognize nothing today can touch them in their field.

They were an amazing magazine...and were absolutely fearless.

        •  I stand corrected on the list (0+ / 0-)

But whatever you think of their journalism, putting Markey in the same category as Alfonse D'Amato is just plain wrong. Period.
