  •  Luckily I'd taken a first aid course (5+ / 0-)

and recognized the signs of stroke my husband was exhibiting a year ago October. The volunteer F.D. and ambulance would have taken too long to reach us and transport him. So I drove him the 20 miles to the hospital.

When we got to the ER the physician asked him to stick out his tongue. Turns out of if the tongue goes to one side or another and not straight it's also a sign of stroke. The physician said I'd probably saved his life.

He did  in and outpatient Rehab and was very good at doing just about everything they asked of him. With the exception of stopping smoking. He tries, then gets stressed, smokes a few months, goes through the stages of quitting, gets stressed, in other words, lather, rinse, repeat.

If you can, take a First Aid Course.
