Of the hundreds of millions of guns owned in this country a vanishingly small number are used illegally. It's a fact that despite the huge rise in the number of guns in this country the number of gun deaths has actually fallen. The tragedies of Aurora and Newton get all the press coverage but it doesn't tell us what is really going on nationally. If we managed to eliminate every "spree killer" in the US do you think it would make a noticeable change in the gun death rates in America? If you do, think again, those crimes amount to less than 1% of gun deaths. You want to really get rid of gun deaths or just feel like "something was done" about the problem?

What's wrong with America? I'll tell you. Everything Romney said was pre-chewed wads of cud from Republicans from the last 30 years and yet he managed thru a combination of racism and selling the (false) hope of riches to get 47% of the national vote.

We're not going to do anything meaningful about gun deaths if we spend all of our energy on preventing the next Sandy Hook. Sure, we'll all feel better but those folks in this report aren't making the 6:00 news in their own towns let alone the national headlines. Those are 100X's the problem and by focusing on spree killers we're doing nothing to stop their deaths. Doesn't that seem bassackwards?
