was a rapid fire smaller case high capacity magazine designed for the 03 Springfield.

20 and 30 round mags were very common for the M1 Carbine and back then both the Grease Gun and the Thompson were still very legal to own both using 30+ round magazines.   The last 2 were and are NFA weapons but readily available yet never used in school shootings....

The type of shootings we have seen in the last 30 or so years are different but it is not the weapons that have changed....

Personally, I think the fact that the great majority of non criminal youngsters deciding to go spree killing correlates too well with the introduction and common usage of SSRI type antidepressants and the amphetamine by a different name ADHD drugs that are passed out like candy by many physicians, both of which are known to cause violent even homicidal or suicidal thoughts esp in youngsters..... Health care in general and mental health care in particular need a major revamp in this country and will do more to quell violence than any other type of restrictions.....  Dump our ridiculous drug laws and we could take a major bite out of criminal on criminal violence also...... Ending poverty or at least trying would do some good too.

then presumably you wouldn't mind trading in your AR-15 for one.

I've shot both, and if I wanted to put a lot of projectiles downrange in short time I know which one I'd pick.

If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!

that a buddy wanted way more than I did so I sold it to him....

I tend to prefer walnut and blued steel, with a Lever action myself....and I like some age on mine though a 03 with a Pederson device installed would be easily as formidable as an AR/AK (it made them semi auto too in case you didnt ck the link) and I wished I had the funds when a few popped up on the CMP site a few years back.

However that doesnt mean I want to deny my countrymen the ability to own ugly tupperguns if they prefer.....choice is a good thing.

I actually have two (one came from the NRA when my uncle bought it through the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 1962 and it cost about $30).  The government also sold surplus M1 Garands and M1 Carbines at the same time, through the NRA.  Back then, having civilian shooters trained before entering military service was considered to be essential to the defense of the country.  NRA gun clubs were provided surplus ammunition FREE, and in practically unlimited quantities.  I fired my first "high-powered rifle", an M1 Garand, when I was about 10 years old at one of these NRA gun ranges.  I shot several bulls-eyes at the 100 yard target, too, and my shoulder was bruised and sore for a few days.

Seems strange now, but that is the way it was in the olden days.

      •  I would love a nice 03 though if you are buying, (0+ / 0-)

A friend recently picked up a nice one and I realized again how much  I would like to have one.  Very accurate, a work of art and fine machining and hand fitting, though my 91 Mauser shows even more fine handwork, the Germans knew their metalwork.......
