      ......in countries with fewer gun nuts. Lax American gun laws are robbing the American people of the full benefits of a societal shift also seen outside the US.

      I read that the reason for fewer homicides by gunshot is because of advanced medical treatment that saves the lives of victims.  This is due in part to knowledge gained from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in how to treat injured soldiers.

        our population is aging

        Don't know the figures for suicide but that's the number that is very high, a lot more than homicide.
